During the debates, the candidates talked a lot about international terrorism..... But I didn't hear them address the gun problem in our country.

A terrible, deceptive graphic. It presents a wildly inflated picture of terrorist deaths by placing the 'zero' line some distance above the bottom of the graph.

I'm not kidding. This was an attempt to sabotage the story, taking some of the punch out of it.

I hadn't noticed the graph. I was just reading the text.

61% of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. are suicides.

In other words the majority of gun deaths in this country are the result of Americans exercising their freedom of choice.

Even if you were to exclude suicides............. It's still a horrendous mess.

I'm thinking 61% is a dubious claim anyways. Does that even sound right to you?

It sounds reasonable to me.

I have known four people personally in my lifetime that have committed suicide with a gun. And I've only known personally one person that was murdered, and that was with a knife.

Take a bow TJ, you are right. I found this hard to believe also.

Suicides account for most gun deaths

Taking 61% as accurate, that puts the number of non-suicide "American deaths by firearms on US soil" during the period of the study at 158,533 versus 3,380 killed by terrorism. That's 2%.

The psychological impact of terror rather than the number of deaths if of significance here.

Right. And that was my point. Even of 61% is right, so what? It still proves nothing.

That's true.

Just take a look at the slaughter on our roadways.

We average between 30 and 40 thousand a year and nobody gives a shit.

Yes, and........?

And that's the point of terror. Asymmetrical warfare.

The terrorist attacks are designed to be mind fucks.

Being worried about being killed by one is stupid.

The chances of that happening to any individual are infinitesimally small.

You seemed to be saying that, despite the relative insignificance of the number of victims, the overall impact of terrorist in the US attacks is greater and more important than the impact of the gun violence we inflict upon ourselves. I'm just trying to find out why.
