View Full Version : Looks like there's an unexpected problem

I went on early this morning, and a number of forums were missing.

I hope they are able to recover everything and get running again.

Completely down now.

"An unexpected database error occurred. Please try again later. "

Yeah, that's what I see. Probably the database has to be recovered and restarted.

Some of the stuff is going to be gone permanently maybe including D&S. There was an announcement Grumpy put on AK for all to read and the affected forums disappeared yesterday actually. Luther has been online past couple of days and since this is Sunday and he has a real job my money is he is doing other work on the site.

Er, they don't have database backups and journaling?

Sure, of course.

Farz I know, they never did get around to migrating everyone's attachments/photos over to the new site. I wonder if they've somehow lost all of that.

migrating everyone's attachments/photos:confused:

My Member's Gallery pics are accessed off my Contol Panel with the new software and my attachments always were. Maybe Luther wrote a new Member's Gallery into the "new" software. It would make sense that's what he is doing today as he sure loves tricking things out. :)

In the old software there was a category for the gallery and another for attachments (photos or documents you had attached to posts). I had been unable to locate the attachments from Day One so I looked in the thread where everyone bitched about the new software and read that it hadn't yet been moved over to the new site but that it was on the "to do" list. More recent posts to the thread were complaining that it still hadn't happened.

And what's the "Control Panel" you speak of? I don't have one.

If I click on my name in the upper right corner where your username and avatar and stats are, mine here (http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?members/carlv.272/), it will take you to the page where there will be a tab, "media". clicking on it opens your "gallery".

Right. This isn't the "Manage Attachments" from the old software. That was the placed where you could access, within storage limits, every photo or document that you ever added to a post as an attachment. That's gone now and, despite assurances from the site management, they haven't been restored. I had a lot of stuff there that I'm sorry to have lost.

The transformation to Xenforo on Steve Hoffman's site seems to have gone well...it happened two years ago. I like the new AK software but kind of sad that New post pages end at only 9. On Hoffman's site they go on forever.

CarlV
02-22-2016, 03:04 PM
How about that, I never looked for attachments and only found the gallery pics by accident last week. Ah well, I liked the original software with the Paragon best, gosh, I remember thinking we would never get to 1,000 members. :p

I wonder whether we'll lose any of the archive like we did before. Time to go back to Vbulletin, IMO. I just tried and failed to make a post.

Definite need of a tuning up @ the AK boards. the Music Forums have been dormant since 3am (FRANCE TIME) yesterday. Some of us are able to invoke the Post Reply feature in AK New Format (some irony there), and @ "conversations", though @ the latter somewhat intermittently. Frannie (bugle girl), John (Hyperion), and I discovered that "replies" work more consistently if one stiecks stricly to Morse Code and includes few to none "special characters" ("@!? etc.).

I cannot post at all anymore, not even in that fucking Diaspora thread. Hey guys this really sucks. Ernie just posted a joke (apparently due to a lack of good news) over there, so I wanted to post a joke as well, but it did not display at all.

However, it is this one (Playboy, October 1971):

"Doctor!" squealed the lovely patient lying on her stomach. "You've got the thermometer in the wrong place!" "It is not the wrong place," the doctor informed her. "And it is not a thermometer."

HarmanKardon

And here is an encore for my dear PC friends:

(Playboy, October 1971)

"Good gracious," said the sweet young thing to the aging roué, "seventy is not old for a millionaire!"

And another one, same issue:

"A taxi-driver acquaintance tells of a horrowing experience he once had when he swered to avoid a child and almost fell off the couch."

This means if there's anything over there, posted from 'early in the week' to now, that you really want to keep, better make copies now. Site may go down for the restore without warning, site-wide alerts are among the things not working....

Yes, it was inaccessible for a few hours yesterday afternoon.

That aside, this is the second time that the new software at AK has crashed with major losses of data, not to mention all the data that failed to reappear after the switch (attachments). Plus there are numerous small glitches in the software like the one involving hypertext. It may now be time to look into going back to vBulletin.

Then you have a very short memory, or were not around for one of the many "great" server crashes we experienced. There's a reason why AK is missing several years worth of pictures and it begins with two letters VB.

We are working on the site and ask you all to be patient.
