One of the local Town Drunks here lost his license, & took to drivin' his Golf Cart all over town...Loaded as usual. THAT came to an end when he drove it off a 5' high stone wall & tore it up. He even got banned from the lake for being plastered while driving his boat...a 30' Pontoon.

We have a yearly horse ride here and theres about 1,000 riders give or take and alot of 'em get wasted up in the hills during the week end ride. Some fall off and can't walk, and fokes help 'em back in the saddle. Hard to get a DUI deep in the hills on horse back. Theres a seven mile old old narrow gravel trail that leads up and part way around the side of the mountain that one truck can barely squeeze through, but the sheriffs department stopped going back there probly 25 years ago. Reckon they'd rather let fokes get wasted where they can pass out without driving home and risking other drivers lives. When they get loaded enough, they either ride back to camp or if they are to loaded they'll just tie the horse and sleep on a rock. Some of 'em drink that good stuff that ole George used to sing about. I got stuck by lightnin' once on that mountain back in the late 80's. When I went back next time ... I took my own .. only a six pack of Bud. Rock ain't worth a damn for sleepin' on :D

Some ride to the mountain all the way from town, about 12 miles away while others trailer their horses to the mountain. The law escorts the ones riding as far as the city limits, then they are on their own on the hwy. It's nice to know the horse still has the right of way in TN, and a driver will get a citation for honking a horn in the presence of a horse rider.

I have a friend who drove drunk until he lost his liscense PERMANENTLY. Even did jailtime over it.
Then he was caught riding a bicycle, drunk as hell, down the middle of the road at 2 a.m. (Four lane, 45 mph limit.) not once, but three times within a six month period.

Some people just never learn.

Jimbo was a sad case, actually. He came from a prominent family, but they seemed unable/unwilling to get him help. He was a "Party Boy", & one of his many girlfriends-THIS one actually cared about him-told me once that he would LOVE to get off the booze, but felt that everybody thought he should act that way. He died a few years ago at 58. A lot of us wondered how he'd managed to make it that long...I remember back in the early '70s, when I first started getting out & about, Jimbo was already a legendary drunk then. He had a boat back then, it had a 455 Olds motor in it, & he drove it WFO all the time...You'd see him going down the lake, the boat would be standing almost at a 45 degree angle, 'cause BoBo was usually so loaded, he would never "plane" or "trim" it out..He had a good job at a local plant, his bossman really thought the world of him, told me once Jimbo should have had HIS job...
