Welcome Don. I'm not from, never been to, probably never will go to Ohio. (Too close to Kentucky for my tastes) :D

I am somewhat centered, but living amongst the leftest of the left I feel mostly conservative.

If I ever want to make it to all of the major league ballparks, I will have to go to Ohio for two of them.

By the way, welcome Donquixote. I hope you don't find participating here to be an impossible dream.

I did a project in Mentor once and it was all work and no play.

Hey, we've raised the speed limits. 70 for everyone, including the trucks, which is the right way to do it, finally.

I be about 60-some miles from the briar patch. But actually, I like Kentucky. It's looksome, got nice areas for campin'. We try to go down and pet the horses at the Kentucky Horse Park every year. The Mrs. really likes horses....

Now I spent time in Arkansas just once. I'd say anywhere close to Arkansas is too close....

Know why they can't solve a crime in Arkansas?

Everyone has the same DNA.

Not really but she was extremely jealous and that is an emotion I simply do not understand, she had no cause to be jealous.

No, you covet them. Our economy is built on us coveting our neighbor's possessions - so that we will spend money to buy something like them.

Soft clipping and 2nd order harmonics are the two differences that are often mentioned. Danged if I know what that really means, I just know I like the sound more.

For someone to not be able to believe another points to damage done years before. Sometimes, over a period of time, the non-believer can learn to trust. Sometimes not. It is painful for the people involved either way.

It is a wonderful thing when both party's can relax and let love be what it is.

It is a more laidback sound much like the SS Marantz, much less fatiguing if you like to listen a lot. SS Mc has it a bit too but more and better detail. :)
752 is a real nice amp, just not an autoformer model.

AFAIK;

"Clipping" is what happens to the top of a waveform when the amp is driven to it's limit. A "soft" clip suggests that the waveform remains relatively smooth albeit flattened at the top, during clipping. A "hard" clip is jagged, theoretically resulting in a harsher sound.

As for the rest;

I like both. Actually, from my experience, a good tube preamp driving powerful SS amps can be amazing. I think the tubes introduce phase shifts to the sound that enhance the sense of "space" in the soundstage. If that makes any sense to you.

I almost went out and bought a C33/2255 package last month, but I didn't think it sounded "more better" enough than my lowly MA6100 and MR74 to spend the money. If the economy had kept my wages going up along with the top 5%, I would have probably pulled the trigger.

Carl

which would you go to first...the autoformer models or the 752 type?
I like laid back warmth and clear but not harsh highs....

thanks for the info!

it is at $380 already.....I thought it would stay at around $350...I will wait till summer time when things go down a bit in price

CarlV

Depends on the speaker, if it were going to drive let's say a modern B&W the impedence curve even on 4 ohm tap goes to near 0. The autoformer corrects and maintains the impedance throughout. Any Klipsch or JBL would not matter at all. IIRC old low efficency Dahlquist have weird impedance curves as well.
I have a 4100 receiver which has either the 752 or 4 amp and it is sweetie.

Carl

icenine
10-06-2013, 01:02 PM
The only B&W I have is a small bookshelf most of my speakers are 90DB like Klipsch and Kefs. I think the 754 types are not as popular but from what I have read they seem to be really reliable...and a bit younger because they are from the early 80s.

I found these Infinity QB-1s with a ribbon tweeter..........they are awesome.
I will getting rid of some speakers soon.

CarlV
10-06-2013, 01:15 PM
Right now the 4100 is driving a pair of these JSE Infinite Slope speakers just like these in black laquer. Yep the Modaferri designed crossovers Joseph Audio nows owns the rights to.
