More on this one.:(

"Family members later identified the staff member who was killed as math teacher Michael Landsberry, 45.
“In my estimation, he is a hero. ... We do know he was trying to intervene,” Reno Deputy Police Chief Tom Robinson said about the fallen staff member.
Landsberry was a military veteran who leaves behind a wife and two stepdaughters, said his sister-in-law Chanda Landsberry. She said she wasn’t surprised he stepped in to stop the rampage."

A child with a weapon....

It's just so wrong.

Just two days ago I asked myself: What's got into America? No more school shootings? And I was so confused.

Now my image of America is in an arranged manner again.

I'm against the armed guards in schools idea because it wouldn't work. Attackers, having the initiative, can easily shoot them or avoid them.

But even more I'm against them because they make attacks on schools into 'usual' and expected' things. They make them normal.

They never can be as prepared - mentally and physically - as the attacker is, even if it is a young student of their own school. In addition to that I doubt the capabilty of a cold blooded use of a rifle by teachers, often very young female teachers. Even in highest danger there is an inhibition of using the gun and kill. This is at least my assumption.

Schools are generally an oasis of peace and cheerfulness. Such an instant impact of violence may cause and escape reflexe or in the worst case - paralysis. An effective use of a gun by School personnel? That would be rather exceptional I fear.

The math teacher undoubtedly took brave action, and his sacrifice may have saved other lives.
