Over $650 billion and over 2,000 dead Americans (not counting 9/11) and this sumbitch Karzai wants us hold his hand in negotiations with the Taliban?
Screw him and Afghanistan.
Bring the troops home, the sooner the better.

'Brinkmanship'? More like MAD.
It's a pretty big test of Obama's nettle, partic after being booted from Iraq.
I hope he succeeds.

How do you engage in peace talks with folks who aren't interested in peace?

I suspect that if we leave Karzai is a dead man. So are many others.
From what I've seen quite a few tribal leaders over there really, really would rather live a 'normal' life vs the Taliban, but when we leave their village the tallies move back in.

Actually, I think we screwed this one up. The previous Taliban leader - Mehsud - had actually indicated he might be willing to talk. He was killed by a US drone back around the first of the month. Now, a particularly radical SOB is in charge - Mullah Fazlullah. He's the guy that called for a hit on a teenage girl who dared to advocate that girls in Afghanistan be able to go to school.
