I stayed at a resort on the Mayan peninsula a couple of years ago. The resort sat next to a stretch of public beach. The public beach of white sand was saturated with tiny bits of plastic which had floated in from the ocean. bits of toothbrushes, plastic container, a little of everything.

Really,this has been going on for over forty years and longer than that for the industrial cities.I think the cancer has spread signifintly and may not be reversable.Remember the comercials from the 70's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epCKjaStFu0

I wish they'd play these again...sappy as they were.... I see so many folk chucking trash out their car widows these days....
