They invested 2.8 Billion into our USA car industry.

And Ohio and Cali are the export hubs.

So how many billions have they taken out of the US economy? How many jobs lost? How much lost tax revenue? That 2.8 is chump change. The automotive trade deficit with Japan was $42 Billion last year. So go back to feeling guilty.

But it is nice seeing Ice supporting the non union labor force :D

My Dad worked for Ford for 42 years. I have bought two brand new Fords in my lifetime.
Maybe I will buy another someday. With only 11 percent of the American workforce unionized it is hard to go around buying union-made products. I do not have time to waste.

I would posit that Canadian cars are mostly Japanese transplants...I know Honda assembles there too.

In this kind of economy America being an net exporter of anything is good news.

Oh yeah my UK assembled Honda CRV is will hit 265,000 on the way home tonight.

hurray for me!

So what your saying is that you were born and raised on Ford money and you buy Honda's, good for you

BTW, I was as well and so are my children...

It's all good Ice.

I'm good with Liberals driving around in Non-Union labor foreign built cars, while bitching about outsourcing, the preservation of Unions and preaching about having to save US auto makers.

So your good

Besides perhaps that factory in the UK was union?

Plus I bought it used so the money went to an American used car dealer and the interest on the loan went to Navy Federal and then USAA......

looks like I am a good American after all......

Pete

you see the bad thing about buying a new Ford is the guy in financing who tries to (and succeeds with the unknowing, i.e. me in 1989) to add on the bullshit AFTER you have agreed with the dealer on the price. They all have mustaches too. 300 revolutions through that? no way lol

Pete a used Honda on a car lot with less than 60,000 miles on it at about half the price of new one is no brainer. The Honda warranty is only like 3 years, 60,000 if you buy new.

actually the Swindon UK Honda plant is union....

so I guess the original owner of the CRV helped a union even if it was across the pond.

As much as I admire their founder, no Hondas for Pete.

Yeah I kinda think I should get a new Ford next time...I will grow a mustache for the occasion. But if it is one of those Korean built gas sippers will that count?

I think the Fiesta may be an offshore transplant....

At least the profits stay here.

Get an ecoboost Taurus :D

As a bonus, it's environmentally friendly. It must be, it's got 'eco' in it's name.

Hey, I don't have a moustache! A fedora, dark framed glasses, big cigar and tweed jacket, yes.

This requires a 'stash:

is there any difference between a rich person in Japan investing billions here and GM selling more cars in their Chinese factories than here at home? In other words the plutocrats are borderless.

That's the old Packard Detroit plant. There's a few of those sitting empty around Warren, Ohio, as well, Pete. My mother worked in one of them back in the '50s. My Aunt Norma retired in the early 1980s after nearly 40 years. Packard existed as a division of GM, before being "spun off" and renamed Delphi. AFAIK, all of the Warren plants are empty now.

Just as a side note;

Dephi, the company formerly known as "Packard" is still a HUGE company with facilities scattered around the globe-----but only six left in the United States, in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and New York. And all of the state side operations are technical/engineering or "customer technologies", (whatever that means).

It's all about globalization.

Just FYI, they finally ripped the office building down at Twinsburg Stamping, the last bit of the old complex standing.

I think even if there was no import tariff on our cars the Japanese would still most likely buy their own autos. And the cost of living is so high there that I wonder if the cost of a domestic Japanese vehicle may be the same as the cost of an imported vehicle on their marker.
