The Ultra-Orthodox held recently a mass rally against being drafted into the
Israeli military.

Israeli having a government which is not beholding to them is trying to coax
the Hasidics into being a productive part of the country.

With their high fertility rate the Ultras are becoming increasingly a burden. Religious students do not work!

No different here. This place is in the next county over and is the poorest community in the nation on paper where the welfare flows like honey. They somehow have a federally funded religious school district. Votes count and when you have a large enough bloc you get your way. Neighboring town politicians have referred to them as a parasidic community.

Yeah! I know about the block vote.
It is easy to shake down the system with the offer of block votes especially in
low turn out elections.

I can guarantee you this amount of vote...this is what you have to do for me.

A local District Attorney in Brooklyn, Charles Hynes was so afraid of the Rabbis with their block votes that he gave a blind eye to sexual cases against them.
Younger more progressive Jews finally organized and threw him out.

Some of the coolest people I've ever met were (are) Jews. However, every race, religion, nationality has it's סקומבאַגס

Right on. And it always seems like the extremes are the troublemakers.

The Haredim were easily the most obnoxious @ssholes I encountered in my recent 17 day trip to Israel. Interestingly, all of my sons Israeli friends felt the same way about them.

And here's Israel's most well-known Haredim neighborhood.

Here's the sign welcoming your to their neighborhood.

Make the mistake of doing something they feel insults them (e.g., driving through their neighborhood on the Sabbath) and they'll stone your vehicle.

With possible allowances for how idiotically they may react to the more non-delusional world around them, hasids are no different from any other pack of narcissistic religious extremists. And like all religious extremists, they're bigots, certainly religious bigots, and typically generalized bigots as well. They consider themselves to be the only real "Jews" just like certain groups of Christians, Muslims, Hindus, etc., etc., consider themselves to be the only real observers of their faiths.

They:

have a grandiose sense of self-importance.

are terminally unique and believe they can only be understood by, or should associate with, other hasids.

require excessive admiration.

have a monstrously bloated sense of entitlement.

are interpersonally exploitative.

have a complete lack of empathy and are unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.

are envious of others and believe that others are envious them (but of course, will never admit it).

are terminally arrogant.

It's group 301.81. Just like with extremist Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and every other pack of religious extremists. And as far as their twisted personalities go, it doesn't matter much if they're living in Israel or Brooklyn or Miami or the Fairfax district of LA.
