The President announces new 10 year pact with our friends in the Phillipines. :)

I'm sure we'll be hearing all about what a terrible idea it is from the usual suspects, who would crow about strength and prowess amid images of attacking eagles clutching arrows and square-jawed Green Berets gritting their teeth, M-16s in hand.......

.....if we had a Republican President.

For my part, I dislike any military expansion. But, with the growth of Chinas defense industry, I reluctantly admit it may be prudent.

While I have sympathetic feelings for the Phillipines I have non for Japan with its revisionist history and extreme right wing nationalists.

He drew a line in the sand with North Korea also, ya I know another red line. To stand by South Korea.

Nobody is afraid of him, nobody listens to him, nobody trust him and certainly no body is counting on him. Hell even the America public know he lies about everything.

This is sure beginning to look like Cold War II, what with our blossoming "containment policy" toward Russia and China and our support for really nasty insurgencies in Libya, Syria and Ukraine.

It seems there is a growing sentiment in Japan that the truth be acknowledged and even taught in schools. That's a plus, in my opinion and a sign that obfuscation and denial may gradually cease.

In some important ways the treatment of the Nanjing massacre by Japan resembles our own temporizing and revising of our treatment of our captive slaves and of the Native Americans, not to mention our two A-bomb raids on Japan. Every country has its skeletons.

As in "they're better off picking cotton?"

To your list of under-reported American atrocities, add our conduct in the Philippine–American War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine%E2%80%93American_War#Atrocities). It was at least on a par with the Nanking Massacre. Depending on your sources, we killed up to 5 times as many innocents as the Japanese did in Nanking. It just seems a shame that we should be in this modern age be given guarantee to Japan versus China. The Japanese seem to be just as
provocative as the Chinese. I observe where the President was telling them to calm it.

I am ambivalent on the A bombs. They were prepared to fight to the last man
for the Emperor.

Even after the first one was dropped they still did not want to give up.

BTW the Japanese rebuffed the President on opening of their markets.

The Moro Rebellion! I'd forgotten that one! "White Man's Burden" and all that.

You seem to be making my point. That's what we were all told. That plus, as many Japanese were killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the toll of Japanese would have been far higher had we invaded.

The Chinese are interfering with fishing rights of the Filipinos. Beef is very expensive there for the average person and they need fish which is their cheapest protein staple.

So this makes me happy.

They can't keep the tempest in the teapot forever, John. He's yearning to have his day in the spotlight.

I know it.

You know it.

It's only a matter of time before he leaps out and leaves no doubt. And, the whole world will be watching.

And, I can't wait. It's going to be a stone gas.
