Earlier this week an American 500 lbs bomb had been found in my hometown. The bomb was still "sharp", as we say, so the speciali*st had to remove the two detonators first.

There are still ten thousands of dangerous bombs in the ground of former Hitler-Deutschland and a lot are still dangerours. The reason for that is that, due to a lack of oxygen in the ground, the detonators do not rust/rot and therefore the mechanics is still working.

I think that the actual destination - I hope that this is the correct term in this context - was the track of the Black Forest Railway which is just 30 meters (90 feet) away from the scenery.

Ach, Du lieber Gott!

Be thankful that the Allies didn't have cluster munitions or depleted uranium back then!

In 2012 a deactivation of a WWII bomb failed in the city of Göttingen. Three people lost their life and a lot of people had been hurt back then.

That's amazing HK. I'm sorry to hear of the danger.

My son just sent me this article about a 500# WWII bomb unearthed in Wiesbaden on a construction site. They're evacuating the area around the bomb in downtown Wiesbaden (the state capital of Hessen) before sending in the professionals to dispose of it.

A picture of the evacuation in Wiesbaden. The Barking Monster is dead now for seventy years, but still he has an impact on the life for example of such innocent babies, at least for some hours.

Well we would certainly miss your posts and becoming maimed or worse because 'left over' armaments is terribly unfair.
