floridas unemployed..

in this economy, florida has been hit pretty hard as well, statewide, unemployment hit 10% for a time, and its sad to see so many people homeless. when will this end??

Unemployment is 12.4% and over 20% in some central valley farming communities here so you Floridians should count your blessings.
How long did the great depression last? Even with previous experience and some safeguards in place the 1987 market crash we had still took a good 5 years to get out of. Given that, anybody who thinks we will get out of this in less than 5 years is foolish IMO. ;)
Besides we keep taking away the buying power of the working people so the good old days are just that, the ones who would put the money into circulation are still waiting for the trickle down that will never come. :)

When those who have been sitting on the money get their way and release their chokehold on the economy. Apparently letting them keep their "Bush" tax cuts wasn't enough. We'll find out soon enough what it is that they really want.

There were some areas in Michigan that nearly hit 30% unemployment. I think we are averaging about 10-11% still. Its going to take a lot of time for everything to stabilize. All we can do is wait it out..

That's right. Here in VA, it has gotten slightly worse, close to 8% now. It had hovered around 7% for a while. I suspect that if the congress is serious about government service and defense cuts that we'll be hit pretty hard. For a state full of wingnuts who hate the federal government, they sure don't seem to mind all of the money the federal government spends here. Without it, we wouldn't be left with much.

BTW, I thought there were areas of MI that stay around 20%, even on a good year?

If the Middle East melts down, I suspect that a shitty look on one's face will be a global expression.

We're close to that now.

The "Bottom fell out" October of 1929 and the Great Depression really did not end until September 1939 when WW II started.

The point was;

These right-wing windbags around here constantly bellow about how they hate the federal government, yet the federal government is by far the largest employer in the state and has been for decades. Without it, these morons wouldn't have a pot to piss in. They'd still be picking cotton and subsisting off of the Crab trade.

They're Republicans, and they're living high off of your tax money, dj. Get the picture?
