The Fifth Season - Wildfire Season
 

Out here in the west we've always referred to the later part of summer as the 'fire season'. The problem is with global warming, it has been lasting longer every year. The budget for fire fighting gets depleted earlier, too.

I am now in Portland, OR and this morning there was ash on my car from the wildfires in Columbia Gorge/Dalles area, about 60 miles to the east. And the Forest Service is running out of money and the fire is only 15% contained. There is talk about diverting funds from other programs.

Heading up to Los Gatos tomorrow via Fresno. I wonder if that nasty fire in Yosemite will be smoking out the Central Valley.
