World Cup Football 2018

Watching the Spain vs Iran game. Viva Espana! :D

finnbow 06-20-2018 01:52 PM

Love me some World Cup! My two favorites for this Cup are Germany (my go-to UEFA team) and Mexico (my default CONCACAF team after the US didn't qualify). Now that Mexico beat Germany in the knockout round (though Germany will likely move on to the next round), I'm going for the "Murderers and Rapists" team.;)

It took them quite a while to score off Iran. There's actually a pretty good story behind the Iranian team by Jason Rezaian, the guy imprisoned by Iran after he talked to Bourdain.

Close call on the Iran goal that was disallowed for off-sides.

bobabode 06-20-2018 02:56 PM

Nice game. It's brought back some fond memories for this old goalie.

In the past 5-6 years, I've grown more interested in good soccer (UEFA, CONMEBOL) than in the NFL. Two 45 minutes halves of constant action, whereas football is ~11 minutes of action interrupted by over 3 hours of commercials, time-outs and assorted butt-scratching.

Two of our players with turkish roots ruined the atmosphere in our team dramatically - this has an impact on the efficiency of our team - since they posed with the dictator Erdogan.

A good very fast soccer match is something fantastic. Portugal vs. Spain was great entertainment.

Geez!
And that is why the press has been so nasty to Ozil. I knew something was amiss.

Perhaps these guys were just naive and did not realize the implication of being seen with Erdogan.

HarmanKardon 06-21-2018 12:00 PM

However, there is no team spirit in our current team, most likely the match vs. Sweden next Saturday will be Germany's last one in this tournament.

Pio1980 06-21-2018 12:34 PM

Tried to watch, first act I saw was a flagrant flop and lost interest.
Good luck to whomever.

'Switzerland Edges Out Serbia In World Cup Win Thanks To Kosovo-Born Player'

"Switzerland beat Serbia in a tense World Cup match 2-1, in a victory even greater for the Kosovo-born players on the winning team.
Several players on the Swiss team have roots in Albanian Kosovo, the former Serbian province that declared its independence in 2008. Relations between Serbia and Kosovo have remained fraught, as Serbia refuses to recognize its former province as an independent nation." HP

Making it harder to deny Catalonia and Crimea.

HarmanKardon 06-24-2018 07:31 AM

The goal of Toni Kroos in the last minute of the additional time is keeping the German team in the tournament.

The match Germany vs. Sweden (2 - 1) last night was an action thriller par excellence!!!

Oerets 06-24-2018 07:36 AM

Wife's watching the England V Panama match as I type right now.
2-0 Panama.

Must win for England.

That was one hell of a goal. Germany still doesn't look like the team who beat Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final 4 years ago, but that goal may prove to be the morale booster they need if they want to repeat as WC champs.

The picture shows Toni Kroos after the goal together with the German coach.

I hope that Belgium will be the World Cup 2018 winner. They have been playing very entertaining football for a couple of years and would deserve it...

...well, any team who wins the final actually deserves the cup, that's for sure...

Belgium looks great so far. Croatia is the surprise so far (in a positive sense), Argentina in a negative sense.

Will go offline now in order to watch the second half England vs. Panama...

It's an absolute ass-kicking. 5-0 at the half.

HarmanKardon 06-24-2018 11:57 AM

Another very attractive match is just over:

Japan 2 - 2 Senegal

It was a very fast one. The players from Senegal could not make profit from their physical supriority.

The World Cup has become the nexis for a demonstration that Nazi gangster values are rife at the top in Russia. I give the example of Burger King Russia offering a bounty for women willing to breed master-soccer-race babies:

You are an agitative spoilsport. It is that simple. But you know that.

Thanks for destroying this thread.

This is my last post in this thread.

donquixote99 06-24-2018 03:05 PM

Well, 'destroy' seems a tad melodramatic. But sorry if I messed up your sports vibe. Had no 'agitative' purpose, just thought it was an interesting item.

And you were very unkind to call me an asshole over such a trivial matter.

Although this is the Off Topic forum.

You appear to be agitated pretty much all the time and are probably unaware of you're agitating nature. :)

bobabode 06-24-2018 06:52 PM

Cut it out assholes...That includes everybody. The next asshole in this thread gets a vacation, capice?

This word brings back memory of not too long ago Brooklyn. A more rough and tumble Brooklyn, a more grey, soiled place. Not this bright colored, glassy one with sushi bars, internet cafes and sanitized ladies riding bicycles which have carriers. WTF...just the rumination of an old fart.

HarmanKardon 06-25-2018 03:39 AM

I edited my post.

This is my very last post in this thread. And maybe the last one in this forum.

I am sorry for my rude diction. This forum has changed a lot since Trump became President of the country I like so much. This is not the PC anymore I liked when I started being an active member here a half decade ago. And rude diction seems to be obviously contagious. This is not how I actually am.

Just one more thing, donquixote99. Obviously you don't get the faintest idea how much Football means to the rest of the world, especially to Europe, especially to England - the birthplace of Football - and Germany.

It is such a pity that you hi-jacked this innocent entertainment thread by... see your post above...

... okay. Done.

See you over there.

donquixote99 06-25-2018 05:57 AM

Thank-you for the edit.

Wow! Wild day in WC football. Mexico crushed by the Swedes and then So. Korea bouncing the Germans.

I'm still holding out for Belgium, being a big fan of Lukaku. Dude's a beast, kinda the Lebron James of soccer. France's Mbappe is pretty feckin' awesome too. If England gets past Croatia, they'll have their hands full.
