The real reason....

Marijuana is illegal and we fill jails will users and growers

"is not because marijuana is unsafe or ineffective -- it is because whole marijuana cannot be patented by drug companies, which pay millions to get their drugs approved, and thus keep the FDA in business."

And the same drug companies and Fed Gov't have known for nearly forty years that canabanoids in the plant reduce tumors and more.....

Another reason they like pot illegal now is because it fills the privately owned prisons with bodies they can use to churn out durable goods... Incarceration has become big business..

and yes.. along with other narrow minded reasons too..

I think it's more our Puritan roots.

I find it so ironic, or is that iconic, that America claims to be the land of the free, yet has the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world... the majority being from drugs.

I really don't believe in any grand conspiracy WRT this issue. It has more to do with the politicians showing how "tough on crime" they are. The GOP electorate wouldn't support a change in current drug laws and the Dem's are too afraid of being labelled as "soft on crime."

It's the jail system, cops and their union, the insurance companies, drug testing facilities, and the labs.
I've been doing randoms for almst 10 years now and and at almost $200.00 a test, this is a huge burden on companies.
We have had several accidents over the years and NOT ONCE did anyone come up positive while being treated.
As everyone knows, pot is the only thing they usually catch. We have our "Lottery" at the beginning of every month. I could do meth week 2-4 and never get caught.
Big Pharma + Politicians + Law Enforcement = A giant money grab.

EDIT- I forgot to include the fact that everytime we have an accident, we must send more people to be tested every month, even if they were clean when they were injured. Now that really tells you something IMO.

Who requires the drug tests? Is it the insurance companies or a governmental regulation? I know the DOT requires drug testing for employees that operate particular equipment on the road, but I also know that Insurance companies require a number of "safety" measures.

My work's insurance company requires us to be tested. I think they can option out, but the premium goes up big time.
