Starving the beast

Anyone ever heard of this tactic before? I was reading on wikipedia and ran across this.

First time I had seen or heard of this.

"If you want to kill the beast, first you must stop feeding it."
---Ronald Reagan

Yes, I've heard of "Starving the Beast", or "deliberate defunding", as a friend of mine calls it.

It's precisely what the Republicans have been trying to do with health care reform and financial reform. They don't have the votes to undo the reforms, so they use back-door obstructionism.

It's not exclusive to Republicans though, in all fairness.

"Starve the beast" is indeed a Republic ideal/tactic and has been so since Reagan. The problem is that while the GOP is willing/able to cut taxes, they are no better at cutting spending than the Dems. They just spend on different things (e.g., tax cuts for the investor class, enlarging the military industrial complex).

Can't starve the beast, it creates it's own manna.
