Meanwhile, "when Congress sent President Donald Trump a bill in July that slapped new sanctions on Russia, the president signed the legislation reluctantly while lambasting it as an example of congressional overreach.

The administration has since blown past an October 1 deadline to implement the sanctions. Lawmakers are now searching for answers as to whether the president is even planning to follow the law that they passed and he signed."

Ultimately, the FBI did not pay Steele. Whether or not he was paid by the FBI, it would have been fully appropriate for the FBI to have paid for a highly-respected intelligence asset with deep connections in Russia to keep looking. Why don't you think it's appropriate to investigate the depths to which Trump was tied up with the Russians? Just because you voted for him?

In any event, if you want a better understanding of what's behind conservatives' breathlessness in criticizing the Dems funding of the dossier, read this and you may be able to grasp how/why you're being confused and manipulated.

Except they didn't pay Steele to "keep looking". They never reached an agreement. They never could verify his sourcing or his claims, which is the likely reason that the FBI backed off. By then, however, multiple "investigations" were underway elsewhere.

As far as your WaPo link, it's "Pay Walled". However, I have no doubt that the folks at WaPo are trying to keep the "Russian Collusion" non-story on life support.

I'm "shocked" that the FBI thought "opposition research" was an appropriate basis to open a criminal investigation.

Seriously, if it turned out that the document was bought and paid for by the RNC and contained dirt on Clinton, you'd not only be screaming about RNC "dirty tricks", you'd also be screaming about how the FBI was being weaponized politically against Clinton.

The FBI was looking into Russian meddling and not helping Hillary. In fact Comey who was head of the FBI had a big hand in sinking Hillary's candidacy. So this is a bogus conspiracy.

And yet, it was reportedly "Russian meddling" that impacted Comey's investigation of Hillary's emails and email server.

Only in 'Cloud Coo-Coo Land' does the above make any sense, at all.

The FBI had been looking at Manafort, the Kushner companies, Magnitsky-related money-laundering, etc. long before they received the dossier. Somehow, it seems you're upset that a bunch of unsavory behavior involving Russians and the Trump campaign came to light. Why is it that every single Trump administration or campaign member, when questioned about Russian connections, invariably lied? Every single one. Coincidence?

Hmmmm, tough one. Because they’re all guilty as hell?
