Really a sales piece, but still interesting.

I heard on the radio that they agreed on some form of profit sharing in lieu of raises.

piece-itpete 10-05-2011 09:24 AM

Page 6 shows the non wage payout over the 4 years, $16,700 NOT including profit sharing which the thing says may be about $20,000.

New hire pay goes from $15~ to $19~/hr.

It doesn't say a lot more than that really. Holidays go from 14 to 17 days.

I guess the Ford execs realised that they need people with reasonable wages to buy their cars. :D

With the drumbeat to take away everything from workers........who the fuck gonna buy cars? Probably Ford is making a statement.

Shame to see that the UAW doesn't give a damn about working people. All the damn useless union could manage to do was to bring some jobs back to the US and get better wages for the new hires, besides taking care of the current workers.

Iirc the new hires were about to sue for some sort of wage discrimination. Hey, can I do that? :)

I've supported the UAW (and the CAW) most of my adult life. Mostly Ford products but some GMs and one Chrysler.

I see they're closing the Walton Hills plant. It's a shame, it's gotta be almost the last nail for that older upperscale working neighborhood. A lot of new cash going into Ohio though.

I wonder what the average salary of UAW employees is?

That post wasn't directed at you Pete. It was reflecting some of the posts I've seen around here lately suggesting the Unions don't care about workers, and that unions are no better for workers than the management class.

BTW, it will be cold day in hell before I ever tell someone how to sue a union.

Come on D, gotta help root out the greed graft and corruption :)

It had something to do with the contract signed a little while ago, cut the new hires pay scale from that point on. I thought it was stupid, because they knew what their pay would be before they took the job!

I was party to a conversation years ago, between me (the evil temp salesman) a company VP (an evil businessman, and temp hirer to boot) and a Teamsters truck driver (a saintly fellow :)).

The driver was pretty worked up. He said that it used to be 'us' (the workers repd by the union) and 'them' (the company), but now it was us vs the union vs the company.

The Teamsters screwed up pretty bad. They ended up paying big time for it too. They also spawned a lot of reform groups within the Union. That's where former Teamsters president Carey came from.

Still won't sue a union. Disgruntled union members usually get PI guys (ambulance chasers) to take their cases, and we end up cleaning their clock.

I heard Ford is giving up to six thousand in signing bonus along with the profit sharing. The Plant in Louisville announced today they are adding a line and 3rd shift. Hiring up to 1K new employees. They just hired 1500 in the summer and retooled the plant.

When Ford was taking the applications I believe 40K applied in three days. Supposedly Ford randomly choose a fraction to interview.
