A classy bunch, the RNC ...

... invites Breitbart to a big-wig GOP fundraiser. I just posted yesterday that $ista $arah defines shameless. I guess the definition applies elsewhere within the GOP.

It certainly is an indication that, to the RNC, Breitbart's trashing of Ms. Sherrod and the NAACP is at the very least a non-issue and, more probably, a praiseworthy achievement. If anyone has any doubts about the racism at the core of today's Republican Party this should settle the issue for them.

I say this without any sense of gloating or feeling of smug superiority. Racism in this country is by no means the sole province of the Republicans but the degree to which they have tied their fortunes to an appeal to the basest aspects of human nature is a profound tragedy for this country. Sadly, I feel we have yet to see the worst of it and may never see the end of it.

My recent college-graduate son is thrilled to be heading off to Germany for his first job (doing construction mgm't. for DoD, like his old man once did). He's looking forward to checking out from American culture and politics for a few years. I understand completely.

My kids are taking a different track. They are just going to stay in their pocket of liberalism for an extra year or two. Lawrence is most def the bluest city in Kansas.

As you may recall, he had an offer in Korea with travel to Japan, Hawaii and Alaska. The day the formalized offer appeared in writing, the Germany offer came through. He's friggin' thrilled to death. How's your boy in Switzerland - back yet?
