Airshow this weekend, Planes of Fame in Chino, Ca.

Yep, this old lefty is going to the local airshow this weekend. They'll have up to five P38s in the air and a host of other old warbirds. The last time I went they had a dozen P51s roarin' thru the sky. There's even going to be a dogfight between F86 Sabre and a Mig 15. I need to remember to bring ear protection this time.:D I've been hearing propeller driven planes flying in to John Wayne airport all week.

If I'm extra nice, just maybe, Patty will spring for a ride?:)

That flying wing is a rare one!

My Dad worked at Lockheed when they built the first run of P-38s. Somewhere at my brothers house is a picture of the very first (non-prototype) one rolling off the production line. I believe he was living in Glendale at the time.

The flying wing is cool. Is there more info on the web about it?

When we lived on APG our quarters were in line with the runway. I still recall the day a C5A arrived with the XM1 Abrams tank prototype. Watching that thing fly just a few hundred feet over my bedroom window was awesome.

I used to sit at the end of the runway at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Ga. and watch them shoot "touch and go's" with C5A's. Awesome isn't a big enough word for that thing!

Here is more info on the flying wing. It is a Northrop N-9M.

Those pics were from the access road at the end of the runway. We bugged out right ahead of the crowds because it was so hot. I saw that big mutha coming in and pulled over to watch. They were turning right above us. That is one bad assed plane. I wonder if we will be seeing many active duty aircraft this time due to the sequester.:(

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_...r_Reserve_Base is right down the road from Chino.
