High Capacity Magazines Off The Menu In California

Good.

Not needed, should be so.
Clearly the want, need for high capacity is more a love of "toys".
Deadly as this seems, love for weapons over another human safety is a failing.

It certainly can't hurt to get some of that stuff off the market.

I think its too late. People will just go to a neighboring state and buy whatever they want. Like Covid, gun violence and school shooting are here to stay. Soon I think schools will become fortresses, do not see how else they can keep the students safe.

We do not own a gun, but since I frequently going to Nevada (Carson City and Reno), I do not see why I cannot buy my weapon of choice there and bring it (illegally of course) into California. Nevada is an open carry no license required state from what I know.

I'm not sure why you would want an "assault" style weapon for self-defense.

At the present time they are illegal in California, even with a 10 round magazine. If you have a magazine over ten rounds, I guess you'd get more legal charges against you if you ever had to use it in self-defense.

The primary reason people abide by the law is because they don't want to face the penalties.

It's all about the fetishization of the AR-15, a gun with limited utility as a self-defense or hunting weapon, but the ability to make its owner feel like Rambo, despite his potbelly and limited shooting skills. A short barreled pump 12 gauge shotgun is a way better home-defense weapon. Just racking the slide will make an intruder shit their drawers and run like a scaled cat.
