Ferguson civil case in Michael Brown death settled for $1.5 million
I hate to say I told you this would happen, but it has, just as I forecasted.
Brown's divorced parents agree to settle out of court for $1.5 million, halfsies, and minus the attorneys' fees. It is a sad day that was a long time coming. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/c...b5b3bbe05.html |
Right after the Castile case comes down, this? They got the chills, I'd say. Afraid they might draw the wrong jury.

No, they realized that most of what they were agitated about has come to pass.
To wit, * the DOJ finding that forced the city of Ferguson to sign a consent decree, instigating a series of police reforms https://thinkprogress.org/its-racist...s-21be3d5bf723 * the elimination of debtors' prisons in multiple municipalities in north county http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...b0c5f0322d0cf1 , https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.874bce0406c3 * stopping the practice of approximately 30 attorneys who sat as judges in multiple municipalities while also serving as prosecuting attorneys for other municipalities http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/...chter#stream/0 * the passing of state laws that capped the percentage of municipality revenues generated from tickets http://www.newsy.com/stories/beyond-...problem-in-mo/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...b0af3706de0328 , http://graphics.stltoday.com/apps/muni-courts/ * the firing/termination of over ten municipal judges, police chiefs, city manager, city attorneys, including Ferguson's. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/news...-judge-resigns , http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/c...1a1a9c6b9.html * the election of numerous minorities to various municipal governments http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politi...cil/ar-AAawIYj * the firing of multiple Ferguson civil service employees who were not customer service friendly http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/mic...emails-n317606 * the in-the-works closing of the quick store of Brown's theft. Turns out the store was banking weed, and selling it on the side for various business partners, of which Brown, off and on, was one. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/m...429ce97b5.html DQ, the insurance company was the one in the works who initiated the settlement proposal, not Brown's parents. In north county, it would take a jury pool fathered by Larry, Curly, and Moe not to rule for the Browns. The insurance company was exposed to $3M, and then the city of Ferguson, the FPD, and other named parties to the suit were collectively and individually liable for any excess lawsuit moneys above that. The insurance company and the city were happy for getting off lightly. |

Please keep in mind that Ferguson is an average snapshot of what is going on in these little fiefdoms, not an outlier. |
