Aren't the original words sung by Judy Collins

"Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer?
Losing my timing this late in my career.
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns...
Well, maybe next year."

I'm just curious if the recording's has been re-issued with a word change. Bit like Leonard Cohen "Give me crack and anal sex" being changed to "Give me crack and unsafe sex" (The Future.)

I think "Send in the Clowns", along with "Houses" are Judy Collins at her best, both make the hairs on my arms stand up.

You are right, rhymes better as well, senior moment I guess. I recall asking the artist at a piano bar if she would do Send in the Clowns, but she refused saying it was too bitter.

"Don't bother, they're here..."

Here is A little Night Music for y'all;

Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

I'm going to watch it again soon, so that I can confirm, but on the Leonard Cohen Live in London DVD, he saing the original version of The Future. Version changing or not, I highly recommend the DVD.

Regards,

D-Ray
