Bought a Mini Cooper
Well, finally pulled the trigger. Looked at all the models y'all recommended when I started the search a few months ago - and thanks, they were all good recommendations.
It came down to buying from someone I know (original owner) who is a car nut like me, full service records, and enough research to make me comfortable with Maggie driving the car safely. 2012 model with 18,000 on the clock - she loves it, which means I can watch the movies I like for a couple of weeks. :D |
You Oligarch, you. Is she going to let you drive it?
Enjoy, Cats. |
They are supposed to be a hoot to drive.

Cool car. My best buddy has a Cooper S and it's a hoot to drive, kinda like a high-end go-kart.
|
That's exactly what it feels like. It is a Cooper S - but an automatic. :( Easier for her, and if she's not happy I'm bunking outside with the raccoons.

Very nice little BMW! ;)
Anyway - I like the classical Mini Cooper S more... without all the nowadays gimmicks... |
I've heard the maintenance is expensive.

Congrats.
Tried to fit in / drive one of those one time. At 6' 6" tall, it was...putting it mildly...a bitch. But it looks like it would be fun to drive. |
Mad Men had the ultimate comment about the quality of 1960 Jaguars.

It is sort of a spoiler. Suffice it to say that the agency has both a Ford account and a Jaguar account and one of the guys with a loaner from Jaguar has a sort of ironic encounter with the British product's perceived lack of reliability, which is a point made in the series. |

I have heard that the older Jaguars are very nice cars with a Chevy motor in it. Otherwise they are still nice to look at. :)

car dealerships to gain a share of the firm. Unless that guy had the Jaguar dealerships...anyway I am talking about Lane. |

I do think that the slimeball dealer sold Jags. Might have to revisit Madmen some day. |

If I had to take them to the shop every time something gave out I'd be living in a van down by the river . . . :D |

That right there is funny. :D |
They are a hoot to drive, just drive it in a manner where you can avoid the $8000 clutch job.
|
The CVT transmission in the early models was junk stay away from those.
|
Have fun with your new car!

This wold be my preferred version of a Mini Cooper.
https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/6022983539.html Of couse it wouldn't be quite as sporty, but it would be heck of a lot of fun to drive. And no, this is not mine, I have just been eyeballing it a bit |
Oh, I do approve of station wagons. I sort of think I heard that those were't VW's finest moment, however....
But anything besides a sedan, if it's to be one's only car. If you're going to have a vehicle, it should have some ability to carry cargo.... |

My beautiful candy apple red 1970 Meteor (Ford) hardtop rusted out so badly I feared having to slam on the brakes for fear the drive-train would stop but not the body. |
I have the 2004 Impala, fairly basic with cruise control.
I'd want another like it, but with assist handles. The later fancier models have too much "stuff" to go wrong. |
