The Threat to Democracy Continues

An excellent summary of the ongoing crisis of Democracy in the US, from The Weekly Sift:

One paragraph from later part of long-form article:
Quote:

The most worrisome thing about the Republican response to their 2020 defeat is their focus on controlling how elections are run, how votes are counted, and whether the voters' choice will matter at all. [9] The Georgia voter-suppression law that got baseball's All-Star Game moved out of Atlanta contained one particularly ominous provision: The Republican-controlled legislature can take over the management of elections in Democratic counties. Wasting no time, the legislature has already started the process that would let it take over Fulton County, where Atlanta is.

I'll repeat what I've said before, the Republican party is at war with American democracy. They don't care what they have to trample to win. It didn't just start with Donald tRump either.

The Republican base has been and is being radicalized. No other way to put it. They see anyone not like them as the enemy. Their cause is just and holy.

I read "Right Wing Watch". If anyone hates what America stands for, it's the GOP. They despise Democracy, hate the idea of spreading wealth, hate anyone different than themselves........ Their mentality can be summed up like this, "Work dirt cheap, keep your mouth shut, do your damn job and be thankful to God for whatever table scraps we feel like tossing you.". Don't believe it? Look at the poverty rates in deep red states like Mississippi and Alabama.

Folks the hate and anger held by the extremest cult following the puppet masters strings. Will never go away peacefully.

This will come to a boiling point at some time. Forced by the cult when loosing on a issue and the puppet masters will not be able to control the beast they created.

Left unchecked we're headed for another revolution.
Half (or some portion thereof) the Repub leadership will still try to ride the tiger and others, try to slay it.

At the United 93 Memorial in Shanksville, George W. Bush warns, "We have seen growing evidence that the dangers to our country can come, not only across borders, but from violence that gathers within," calls violent extremism abroad & domestic "children of the same foul spirit."

No shit, W. Now use your influence to stop the far-right extremists in your party.

Yes, the Jan. 6 insurrectionists were terrorists. George W. Bush just indicted them.

Quote:

Few Americans expected wisdom from former president George W. Bush on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Even fewer expected wisdom on the current state of our politics. That is nevertheless what we got from his remarks in Shanksville, Pa., today.

In perhaps the most important words spoken in his political career, Bush in his remarks at the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93 drew a straight line between the 9/11 terrorists and the 1/6 terrorists. “We have seen growing evidence that the dangers to our country can come not only across borders but from violence that gathers within,” he said. “There is little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home. But in their disdain for pluralism, in their disregard for human life, in their determination to defile national symbols, they are children of the same foul spirit." He added, "It is our continuing duty to confront them.” Bush’s words were an indictment not only of the violent MAGA insurrectionists but also, implicitly, of his party that coddles them and the leader whom the 1/6 terrorists wanted to install by force.

Pennsylvania Republicans invade voters’ privacy in service of the ‘big lie’

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...rvice-big-lie/

Quote:

“Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania on Wednesday approved subpoenas for a wide range of data and personal information on voters, advancing a probe of the 2020 election in a key battleground state former president Donald Trump has repeatedly targeted with baseless claims of fraud.” The scope of the Republicans lawmakers’ demands is as stunning as it is unprecedented. They are “seeking the names, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, last four digits of Social Security numbers, addresses and methods of voting for millions of people who cast ballots in the May primary and the November general election.”
Time to throw these disgusting Repubes behind bars.
