Matewan
A historic battle in the "Coal Wars" rages in 1920s West Virginia.

I've read about this before. Seems like the sheriff and his deputy were set up the day they were murdered, and the reason they weren't armed is because they knew it was a set up and didn't want to provoke a confrontation.

There's a pretty good movie about the Matewan Massacre.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093509/ That's still a pretty rough, inhospitable area where the distrust of strangers is palpable. |
I've seen that a few times. Great movie.
Another good one on the "Coal Wars" topic is this 1985 doumentary; "Even the Heavens Weep" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKugykjNrn0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfYSy...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvoIi...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rytb5...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj8ee...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyHlx...eature=related Dave |
You sure caused me to weep, Dave. I'm deeply aware of of the benefits brought about by the forces of unionization. It's but a simple extension of the rights afforded us by the constitution. The present war on labor is by far more insidious than previous assaults. "When will they ever learn?" was a lullaby that was sung to me.

I come from a largely union family too, Bob. My old man told me, back in my Republican days, "You won't realize what you had until those guys have taken it all back. And they will, given the time and support to do it." Dave |
When our Supreme court say bribery is legal this is what you can expect. Especially when they also declare that money is speech.
