There is a definitely a disconnect between the minimum wage and housing costs. In places where the minimum wage comes closest to being able to pay for housing, there are generally fewer jobs and other social services.

Therefore, the unemployed and underemployed move to urban centers that generally provide a higher level of social services, but that have much higher housing costs.
