There is a left wing press, but it seldom gets much attention, although the Nation and Mother Jones have some staying power. The dominant press in the country is the corporate press - the major networks and most of the printed media.
Neither the corporate press nor the limited actual left-wing media is responsible for the decline in popularity for the tea party. You can give credit for that to the likes of the Koch brothers, Sarah Palin and the like. Those folks corralled the energy that once was the tea party's disaffection with the status quo to to transform it into yet another tool for the corporatist agenda. That drowned out the voices of many of those who showed up to decry the loss of democratic (little d) principles in the way government works. Those voices have reemerged in the actions by the folks who have taken to the street in the OWS movement. Don't waste your tears on the Self destruction of a grass roots movement.
