I love the Oakland Hills area just South of Berkeley. The Warren freeway in springtime still ranks as one of my favorite drives. I'd drive from Mills College to Cal at least three times a week and always looked forward to that drive. The parking at Cal not so much. Despite the much talked about violence of Oakland, I never had any problems with anyone there. The last time I was there, I thought that the city did a great job of making downtown nicer again compared to when I lived there back in the early 1980s.

The 1960s? I always thought I was born a couple decades too late. East Bay in the 1960s must have been, shall I say, fun.
