So far, I've learned just from reading the preface, that neither one of those things would have stopped anything. In fact, people had both and it didn't stop the rise of Fascism, it helped fuel it. Fascism was not established by force or with religious resistance. Initially, Fascism was established through a twisted perversion of Catholic Mysticism, vilification of immigrants, distrust of established governments (Weimar Republic in Germany) and the promise of jobs for the unemployed during a deep depression.
