We were not appointed as the world's policeman AFAIK. Sure when the chips are down (WW I WW II) do what needs be done, but Europe does not need protecting anymore, South Koreans dislike us, and now the new Japanese government wants to re-negotiare the presence of our troops, so why not bring them all home.
Maybe if we were to stay home then they might just start to think -"Hey, where did they all go, gee are they not coming back?"
