It's neither a good likeness, nor did they get a quote right that was inscribed upon it. It caused quite a kerfuffle and the inscription is going to be redone.

The statue has a certain Soviet era sternness about it. The greater memorial with the inscribed walls from his speeches, etc. is quite moving, but the statue that served as its centerpiece has been quite controversial in terms of the artist (Chinese), stone (also Chinese), stern Soviet-like depiction of King, and the botched/paraphrased inscription.
All in all, it's still a wonderful memorial and highly recommended, but there was some poor decision making involved in its development (as is the case for most National Mall memorials, BTW).
