In the proper hands, a bat is not lethal. In the wrong hands, it's as lethal as any firearm.
Of course, it's not illegal to carry a baseball bat. However, if someone posts on social media that they plan to beat a SCOTUS judge to death, and they're intercepted in the SCOTUS judge's neighborhood with a baseball bat, it would certainly be newsworthy and the individual could face prosecution for it.
