True!

President Santos put his neck on the line by trying for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. He bucked powerful right wing forces who wanted otherwise.

Farc started out seeking to address striking imbalances of the Colombian society but then lost public support with its use of kidnappings.

Also it is necessary to mention the efforts of Castro and Chavez in convincing Farc leadership to come to the peace table.

Black Colombian communities should especially welcome the possibility of peace, since despite government recognition of their land rights (law 70, year 1993) their habitat has been under siege by rampaging paramilitaries.
