Oh, mail was the social media of the time, and absolutely vital. My dad and my mom actually met by mail! My dad fixed tank radios and wiring. Wasn't tank crew, but he saw plenty of what happened inside those things.... The guys who lived wound up bonded as tight as anything. His battalion had reunions right up until they were about all gone.
