I remember one of the very first fests I went to in Detroit. Newman and Squid had a room, and there was a pretty good crowd in it. Somehow, Squid and I got off on a tube tangent and were just talking our asses off about inside tuber stuff. All the sudden I noticed that everyone was just kind of staring at us like we had three eyes or something. One dude just shook his head and walked out. I've been working on getting a life ever since.

Heh, I remember stumbling into the tuber forum with a Maggotbox 175 and some weird cat said, "Welcome to the dark side!" Remember that Jay? Sure beats sand amps all to hell unless I want to listen to those big Vandersteen Three hogs. A pair of Adcom GFA 555s with four big ass 15,000mf/100v filter caps in each ampdrives those Vandys to levels not seen in tube amps. Unless I want to get into some monster transmitter tubes each the size of a fifth of bourbon I'm stuck with the Adcoms! Happily! Bluestreak ran the same amps with some #2s. Now he's got the Mac gear with some Zilchlabs he brewed up.
Shit, too bad we're so freakin' far apart. Man, I'll bet I can drive politics out the window and down to the corner and into the storm drain. So can youse guys, I'll bet.

Here's a funny one for you guys. I had a asshole neighbor in the condo next door who insisted on some late night construction noise...so I put a 30hz test tone CD in and started to crank it up. Those threes are rated to down to 27hz! I never even got it to halfway up, it was like a flashback, I swear the walls were breathing and my eyeballs were bouncing around and swimming in their sockets, hehh. Cured the noisy neighbor's shenanigans. They thought a helicopter was landing on the roof. Patty came tearing down the stairs thinking it was an earthquake! I've never seen her move so fast! Man oh man, was she ever pissed!

I had a set of Rogue M120s in an 10 x 12 room once. I'd end up stripping down to my shorts in there to keep the heat stroke at bay. 4-6550s and all that iron put off a ton of heat. One of them was problematic. kept burning up a resistor inside and tubes in one socket didn't last for shit. Sent it back to Rogue twice. When it went the third time, I was done with them. Too bad, they were nice sounding amps.

Also, I ordered a 5998 for the Crack on Monday. Should be here tomorrow. I've read on the Bottlehead forum that the 5998 is THE power tube for the Crack. We shall see. I've started saving up for a speaker drivin' amp project. Haven't decided which kit to get though. The BH Stereomour would be a nice compliment for the Crack....but at 3.5 watts.....I dunno.

Now that is funny! Stuff that low can cause some pretty bad nausea pretty quick (for me anyhow). I get a kick out of the guys that say they are getting down around 25. 30 takes some real doing, and I'd bet half of them are around 45 even 50. Once you've heard low bass, you know it, but until then you have no frame of reference. I have a pair of 15" JBL 7 foot folded horns I used to run for bass in my all horn rig, and you would literally think your fillings were coming out of your teeth, you could feel them vibrate. I'd like to bring them back out every now and then but the Missus is dead set against it.
