Yeah, you know this very thing happened with my father.
He had degenerative arthritis. At some point the medical folks said some other condition he had meant he would have to be put on a different pain medication that was far more expensive. The insurance company, I think it was Aetna, wouldn't cover it, claiming the drug was "experimental" and too expensive. This meant he had to be taken off of his pain meds altogether. He went from being able to walk on his own and drive his car to being restricted to a wheelchair within a day. He was in constant, unrelenting pain for the last year of his life.
The guy was miserable and when Mom passed, he simply gave up. No longer having any will to live. He was gone in three months.
I'll never forget that.
Government "death panels"?
Maybe we should have a national dialog on what private insurance puts people through? Anyone who thinks those guys would never put you through hell to save a buck deserves the disappointment they have coming.

Dave, thanks for bringing the thread back on track. Until I saw your post, I was prepared to lock this thread, as it had left the rails pages ago.

Medicare does the same damn thing.
My Grandmother was on Medicare. Medicare decided that she'd been in the hospital too long. She had pneumonia and CPD, and was in her mid-80's at the time. But the idiots at Medicare - maybe like Barby - told the hospital that they would no longer cover her hospitalization costs, and the hospital discharged her. She went home, of course her condition worsened, and she was right back in the hospital the next day. She never recovered, and was gone a few hours later.
