John Hammomd - "Wicked Grin"

Produced by Tom Waits, all songs by Tom Waits except for "I Know I've Been Changed", a traditional gospel song, but Waits sings on that one.

Recorded in Cotati, CA (next town north of me) and San Rafael, CA (next town south of me).

"I'ma whittle ya into kindlin'!"

John

That sounds really, really good. I was fortunate enough to see John Hammond here in KC a year or so ago, along with David Lindley. Mr. Hammond is an authentic blues man. It's a little ironic to see Hammond and Waits teamed up, because there was a time when I got the two of them confused.

Regards,

D-Ray

It really is! You'd like it, Don.

I would have loved that!

Too funny! They are a bit similar, as evidenced by Hammond's facility in covering a dozen Waits tunes on the CD. Both are unquestionably unique, though.

Here, Don (and everyone). Here's a link to the CD at MOG. If you aren't subscribed to MOG, the basic subscription is free and you can stream unlimited tunes.

Crap! They only give you 3 cuts from the CD, 3 out of 13! Never encountered that before. Maybe Spotify has the whole thing.

Yup! They do. I can't give you a link for that, though, because Spotify works through a proprietary player that you have to install, not through a web interface.

That is a fine album maybe one of the best of 2011, which was much better than this year
I agree and probably their best effort since 99's "Californication" in my mind. Been a fan since "Freaky Styley"

Kinda sacrilege with some but I'm thinking I prefer the new guitar player to John (and I'm a big John fan)

Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue" Columbia Legacy CD.

KOB was the first Jazz record I ever bought, when it first came out in the '50s. I'll never get tired of it!
