Did you see or listen to the interview? The President did NOT refer to the attack as a bump in the road.

Here, whell. I don't want you to tax your brain trying to take in what the President is saying in real time.

Q: Have recent events in the Middle East given you any pause about your support for the governments that have come to power following the Arab Spring?

President Obama: Well, I said even at the time that this is going to be a rocky path. The question presumes that somehow we could have stopped this wave of change. I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy, universal rights, a notion that people have to be able to participate in their own governance. But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road because in a lot of places the one organizing principle has been Islam, the one part of society that hasn't been controlled completely by the government. There are strains of extremism and anti-Americanism and anti-Western sentiment that can be tapped into by demagogues. There will probably times when we bump up against some of these countries and have strong disagreements but I do think, over the long term, we're more likely to get a Middle East and a North Africa that is more peaceful, more prosperous and more aligned with our interests.

Take your time. Read it over carefully. Then maybe you'll think better of trusting a disgusting rag like the Mail in the future.

............. nah!!!

You're really starting to sound quite ridiculous and unhinged.
Did you miss the story about the EMBASSY in Cairo getting torched Bobby?

Yup, he said bumps in the road alright. Yup, he was referring to our troubles in the Middle East. Yup, we still have dead Americans after the "bump in the road" on 9/11/12. Thanks for confirming all that.

What was the question he was answering and where was any mention of the attack?

It didn't get torched, whell, though our flag did, and nobody got killed.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Why John? Can't you read your own post? It's inferred in the question. What other recent events in the Middle East do you think Croft would be asking about during an interview last week that would possibly make the Prez rethink his handling of the Arab Spring? Remember the interview with Croft was originally scheduled for 9/12/12 and had to be postponed.

Only one with an absolute fealty to GOP talking points is going to maintain that the President referred to the death of the Ambassador and the other diplomats as a bump in the road. The anti-American demonstrations are a bump in the road in the larger context of developing democracies. I don't think he or any President would want to empower the demagogues who are using the video as a tool to stoke hatred by asserting that they have won any lasting victory.

Are you and Jennifer Rubin on the same mailing list?

Regards,

D-Ray

Croft's question was with respect to our support for the emerging governments in North Africa. The President's comment regarding bumps in the road was said with respect to any and all possible rough patches we might encounter in our relations in the Middle East and North Africa. All he was saying was that he had anticipated that there would be difficulties and that events had proved him right.

We both have our biases and those will cause us to interpret the President's remarks in the way that best conforms with them. You'll decide what you believe to be implicit in those remarks and so will I but the fact of the matter is there's nothing explicit in the President's answer to either support or refute either of our positions.

And that brings me back to the beginning. The President DID NOT SAY that the deaths at our Libyan consulate were "bumps in the road".

Stealing and then burning a flag in the street is not an Embassy torched by any stretch of the imagination.

Whatchoo been smokin', whellie.
