Tell you about America Chas. It's the only country on earth with a ridiculously idiotic concept like "anti-American". As a matter of habit, have you ever heard of any liberal in Britain called "anti-British"? Or any liberal in France called "anti-French"? Of course you haven't.

The United States has certainly cornered the market on this form of idiotic malcontentedness.

I think a lot of this has to do with many Europeans' disdain for the concept of patriotism. Strong patriotic feelings, akin to nationalism, caused all sorts of nasty problems in 20th century Europe that many Europeans hope don't occur again. As a result, uber-patriots in many European countries (e.g., France, Germany, Austria) are viewed suspiciously as right-wing nuts and their criticism of others who don't share their patriotic zeal gets little traction.

There has been an incredible little scene the evening the Merkel pack had been elected again. They were standing in a row on the edge of the stage of their headquarter and they were singing and they were waving to the devoted CDU audience and so on...

Well suddently one of the politicians of Angie started to wave a tiny Black-Red-Golden paper flag. After some seconds Angie noticed that, she went to the poor Mr. Grohe and took him this flag away. She looked like a totally mad rabid bulldog in that moment. Okay, she almost always looks like a rabid bulldog.

This is what our public patriotism is made of. This inhibited manner of not showing to be proud to be a German in public is still a result of the Third Reich which still causes to some extent a collective trauma.

I doubt that this is going to lend any insight to the situation, but if she had tried to take away my crummy little paper flag I would have knocked the shit out of her.

There are a lot members from many nations from all continents. But all offenses and attacks came exclusively from American members. The youngest was 24.

Thank you for the lyrics Rex.
The pattern of increased xenophobia expressions this year is interesting. I regard xenophobia as a right-wing specialty (although it can show up anywhere). So I suspect what you report is a result of generally-increased right-wing arousal/agitation. Reasons for this might include heightened left/right conflict in Washington, and heightened right-wing agitation/propaganda efforts on various media including the Internet.

A reason for the dislike of expressions of patriotism is illustrated.

Has nothing to do with patriotism. Has everything to do with having one's space invaded.

To be honest, I wouldn't have struck her as I have never struck a member of the fairer sex. But I would have twisted her arm until she made the connection.
