Duke University Cancels Muslim Call to Prayer

Officials at Duke University abruptly dropped plans to broadcast the Muslim call to prayer from the iconic bell tower of Duke Chapel after online protests led by evangelist Franklin Graham and unspecified security threats.

Graham: “As Christianity is being excluded from the public square and followers of Islam are raping, butchering, and beheading Christians, Jews, and anyone who doesn’t submit to their Sharia Islamic law, Duke is promoting this in the name of religious pluralism.”

So, does this intolerant dipshit actually believe that Duke is promoting "raping, butchering, and beheading Christians, Jews, and anyone who doesn’t submit to their Sharia Islamic law?" I'm thinking he's too dumb to realize that this sort of shit is what has alienated Muslims in Europe (and the general lack of this sort of shit is why Muslims have integrated relatively well here).

It wasn't all the way cancelled, but they had to play their chant from a speaker on the ground, not up in the tower as planned.

University caved to terror threats from 'Christians.'

Equality principles say that if Christians can make noise from the tower, Muslims on campus whould have an equitable opportunity to make noise from it. This is just a group seeing it's ability to sonically 'mark it's territory' threatened.

Is Duke a Christian college that admits non-Christians? WTF??
Franklin Graham is another idiot that discredits Christianity.

I'm no bagger, but that Muslim call to prayer sucks the big one.

It's really annoying.

If I travel to a Muslim country I realize that I'll have to hear it, but here in 'Murica shut it down.

I have to listen to that goddamned Christmas music for the entire Christmas season.

Isn't that punishment enough?

Methodist and Quaker, then just Methodist.

Duke has only been Duke for about 90 years. It had several other names before that including Trinity College. Interesting for a university whose sports teams are called the "Blue Devils".

And where does it stop then? Will atheists (or Muslims) insist that steeple bells no longer be rung? Will athiests (or Christiams) require that the shofar no longer be blown?

I don't object to it on religious grounds. I object to it on noise pollution grounds. Have you heard that thing?

Jesus Christ almighty it's annoying as Hell.

If they would use something like Meatloaf's two out of three ain't bad instead, I'd be OK with it.

Actually, when traveling in Turkey, Jordan or Morocco, it adds to the exoticism of the place (except for the pre-dawn and dawn calls). I'm not sure it adds to the exoticism of North Carolina though.
