Trespass Laws
How seriously do other countries take them? In the UK they're fairly weak. You can use 'reasonable force' (define reasonable) to remove trespassers from your house, but use of a deadly weapon (kitchen knife, golf club etc.) would get you remanded in custody until the trial, and it would be you that was on trial.
There are exceptions, breaking into a military base being one of them but even then there'd be a full inquiry afterwards.

Tennessee has a "Castle Law" that gives "a person the legal right to use deadly force to defend that place (his/her "castle"), and/or any other innocent persons legally inside it, from violent attack or an intrusion which may lead to violent attack."
(From Wikipedia) Seems fair to me.

It varies from state to state, in some states unless you have a high wall around your property people can walk over it and you have no recourse.

Yes, ever since the women got the vote the countries gone straight to hell.
(Just for you noone  An enlightened European told me that about their home country).In Ohio the burden of proof is on the trespasser. As one cop said, it's hard for the trespasser to argue the story if he's dead. This is recent though. Before you got thrown in jail even if the trespasser was attacking you! That would be known as 'enlightened'  Pete
