The little-known insurance company that rescued Donald Trump by providing a last-minute $175 million bank fraud bond isn’t just unlicensed in New York; it hasn’t even been vetted by a voluntary state entity that would verify it meets minimum “eligibility standards” to prove financial stability.

Perhaps even more troubling, the legal document from Knight Specialty Insurance Company doesn’t actually promise it will pay the money if the former president loses his $464 million bank fraud case on appeal. Instead, it says Trump will pay, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee.

Hanley, the bond expert, said the lawyers who drew up this latest Trump bond could try to assert that Knight Specialty doesn’t owe anybody anything—without much success. But it bears all the hallmarks of Trump’s overarching legal strategy: pushing off the inevitable as long as possible.

Going to be very interesting as to how the court and state of NY deal with this. Only postpones his appeal on a case he has lost badly, so not that a big deal, NY can wait.

As his legal options narrow, Trump’s attacks on the judge in the New York case and those involved in his other looming trials and his wild claims that he’s the victim of political persecution are getting ever more extreme. In a dark Truth Social post over the weekend, Trump wondered how many “corrupt” judges he’d have to “endure before somebody steps in?” And in a fundraising email, the ex-president slammed his “sham trial” and warned “all hell will break loose” unless he got a new injection of financial support

He's trying to another Rubicon. Unfortunate that the first one, Jan 6th, didn't get him thrown into Leavenworth immediately. But he pulled off the con that he was too strong to mess with.

If he had an army now he would order it into action. But he actually doesn't. All he can do is throw out appeals for stochastic terrorism (somebody steps in) and hope somebody does.

But I call it a Rubicon because there for sure would be no going back after a court got shot up.

This one, yet another delaying tactic is still open and the NY court of appeals will need to decide on this before trial starts (my guess), or they will ignore this and move on with the trial.

Two people with knowledge of the matter said that Mr. Trump’s lawyers on Monday had planned to file the action calling on the appeals court to overturn a gag order that Justice Merchan recently imposed on the former president. The order prevents Mr. Trump from attacking witnesses, prosecutors and the judge’s own family.

Court records showed on Monday that Mr. Trump had begun the process of filing the action against Justice Merchan, though the papers were not immediately made public.

Their strategy seems to be appeal everything that can be appealed at the 11th hour for maximizing delays.

Allen Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, was sentenced Wednesday to spend five months in the infamous Rikers Island complex in New York City—the same facility he served time in just months ago.

The legal saga now appears to be complete for Weisselberg, who pleaded guilty last month to two counts of perjury that stemmed from him lying while under questioning by the New York Attorney General’s Office in 2020.
