We gotta get out of the mindset of believing that we have the capacity to control world events. Isn't that exactly what drew us into Iraq and started this whole ball rollin'?

If Putin manages to break up NATO over the Ukraine, that will make his a policy with far-reaching impact!

One might also say that if we sacrifice NATO to this conflict, we have made a very consequential choice.

I believe we became too invested in the spread of NATO and look at Russia as
inconsequential.

Smart enough not to want to stumble into a conflagration but not smart
enough to see that an economically dead Greece cannot buy BMWs.

Does Greece even register as a meaningful trade partner to most Germans?

Must have had some economic value for her to have loaned them bailout money. Mind you the Euro was a dumb idea in the first place. Brussels decides what its value is and it is up to all the individual economies to figure out how to live wit that. Imagine the chaos if we replaced the Fed with Brussels Central Bank.

No, but the attitude also extends towards Spain and Portugal and this is a
short sighted one which can engender an anti German disposition...not good
for trade.
