Yes, at the expense of our earth, our soil, our water. What good will oil and gas have on humanity when everything else is poisoned, bulldozed, burned, etc... How many automobiles can earth handle? How much heating systems and air conditioning?

Overall environmental carrying capacity is very much a factor for sustainability.

That is right. That is exactly right. The earth will get through it and go on pretty much as if has forever as a self sustaining organism. It is the survival of the human race which is in question.
Especially the United States when it goes belly up financially. America will go on but in what capacity is also in question. We could become a military state. Oh fun!

No problem there. What is your problem of absolutism? Give me real information and I am changeable. Of course, the source is important as well. There are absolutes, they may not be truth but absolutes are very much available.

I am referring to your statement...when everything else is poisoned....
We always make reasonable adjustments before any such totality is reached.

Who are we? Please don't think me smug. I am curious as to what the word 'we' means in this context. Does it mean humankind, political party, science, etc...?
What does 'we' mean in the context you are referring to? I am only curious, please don't think that I am being smug or indifferent. I am trying to understand.

I think you're giving humans too much credit. We're still hunting/gatherering apes fresh out of the trees. We use up a place and move on to greener pastures.
Too bad we're running out of places to move on to. We need to grow up.

You are probably right.
Anyhow I have to acknowledge the push back against the greedy and the reckless, who in many instances are forced to operate within certain constraints.
There is now a more knowledgeable and vigilant public.
Environmentalism has come a far way.
