The primary objective of an elected politician is to get re-elected. It takes a lot of money from contributions it to run campaigns. This beholdens them to the contributors. This is a vicious chain of dependency.

Probably not, but we can hope and promote.

With any luck it won't. Since most working people spend the bulk of their income they would be taxed at about 20% whereas the wealthy would get taxed at about 6%.

yes, but to my earlier point, the money we spend "assuring" that we have a progressive tax structure, which still enables the wealthy to find ways around that structure, while hiring tax accountants and tax lawyers that the average Joe can't afford (creating a cottage industry in the process), just ain't worth it.

Oh the tax structure sure needs revising and simplified. Used to do my own taxes back home as the form was only four pages and one of the pages was a tax table, e.g., If your taxable income was between $x and $y you tax is $z. Erik can tell if that has changed.
Of course Congress could even screw up the Lord's Prayer.

From the website...
"Yes, the FairTax is fair, and in fact, much fairer than the income tax. Wealthy people spend more money than other individuals. They buy expensive cars, big houses, and yachts. They buy filet mignon instead of hamburger, fine wine instead of beer, designer dresses, and expensive jewelry. The FairTax taxes them on these purchases. If, however, they use their money to build job-creating factories, finance research and development to create new products, or fund charitable activities (all of which help improve the standard of living of others), then those activities are not taxed."
I would urge everyone to visit the website and look at the FAQ section. That will clear up a lot of misconceptions.

More info...
"Is the Fair Tax Progressive? Do the rich pay more and the poor pay less as a percentage of their income?
Absolutely, as you can see in Figure 6 below -- where the graph shows annual expenditures for a family of four and the corresponding FairTax effective tax rates. The poor actually pay less than zero-percent retail sales tax on their spending. Much like with the earned income tax credit of today, the rebate may give them more money than they actually spend on retail taxes. Especially if they are frugal and buy mostly used products. On the other hand, the wealthy approach a maximum of 23-percent retail sales tax on their spending."

This deal with the IRS is a prime example of why I am against gun registration
by the Government. Create a neutral organization with sealed records that
politians or Government employees have no access to and I will glady
register Old Betsy and Trigger.

So that graph assumes that the wealthy spen 100% of their income? Somehow I doubt that.
