Nevada State Constitution
http://www.leg.state.nv.us/const/nvconst.html
"That the people inhabiting said territory do agree and declare, that they forever disclaim all right and title to the unappropriated public lands lying within said territory, and that the same shall be and remain at the sole and entire disposition of the United States.........."
So, if I'm reading this right, from it's very inception Nevada recognized that land "unappropriated" by anyone else, remains the property of the U.S. government. (Explains why the federal government holds so much land in Nevada.)
So, this proves Bundy is even more deeply wrong than I previously thought.
Any thoughts?
Dave

You're absolutely right. The Federal government (and not Bundy's family) bought the land from Mexico after the Mexican War and these provisions of their constitution were a condition of them entering the union. It seems to me that any Nevada politician who supports Bundy is breaking his oath of office to adhere to the state's constitution.

I understand your point, but in this context that statement could come close to condoning Bundy and friends' actions.

And, of course, it could be said that every square inch of this country was taken at the point of a gun.
(Except for Manhattan. )

It was not to condone Bundy, however in the ensuing atmosphere after Manifest Destiny and Texas bouncing back and forth from a Mexican Province to independence to statehood Florence's ancestor, Jose Narciso Cavazos, had his ranch stolen out from under him by that carpetbagger Richard King. Of course had that not happened I would likely have never met and married her and that would have been terrible.

For better or worse a sense of entitlement by force and "Manifest Destiny" has dominated history and particularly ours here.
