As the Times writer says, it's almost astonishing to hear a politician speak so truthfully and well in these times. Mitch Landrieu eloquently describes the values New Orleans, and the nation, should uphold. The values symbolized by the Confederate monuments of New Orleans were antithetical, which is why it was good and right to relocate the statues from the positions of dominance initially chosen for them.
Give the 20-minute speech a listen, you'll be glad you did.
I'm a Mitch Landrieu fan, as I was a fan of his father, Moon, and sister Mary. All a very classy, accomplished family and a credit to the city of New Orleans.
