I'm old enough to fondly remember filling by bone dry 63 beetle for less then $3.00. Worked at a station when gas wars would make it 19.9 a gal. But mostly it was around 29.9 a gal.

When I started driving, my dad told me to never put less than $2 worth of gas into the car. Now, I think I can fill up my lawnmower for less than $2 worth, but not much else.

Let me get this straight. NY has one of the lowest taxes in the country on gas yet other than CA it generally has the highest prices at the tank.

Can someone explain how Ny and CA can pay so much at the pump and have the biggest ports hence least cost of delivery?

I don't know about New York but In California CARB (California Air Resources Board) requirements make it necessary for refiners to make a "California blend" that's different from that in the other 49 states. That adds to the cost and is the reason given for our high prices.
