Wouldn't this be the same as Nixon, interfering with justice or obstruction of justice or whatever he was found guilty of?

No, incoming administrations routinely fire political appointees. Trump had promised this particular US Attorney that he could keep his position, then asked for his resignation anyway. When he refused to resign, he was fired. A popular, charismatic enemy Trump has just created.

Nixon was not found guilty of anything since he never came to trial or was even charged for a crime for that matter. Ford's Get Out of Jail Free card saw to that.
